With reference to my confidential despatch

of 8th September on the subject of the seizure of heroin hydrochloride on the S.S. "Angers", I have the honour to

enclose a copy of a newspaper report of the trial at the

Criminal Sessions of the man in whose possession the drugs

were found, and also a copy of a further report by the

Superintendent of Imports and Exports on the case.

It will be seen that the defendant, Yonejiro

Tanaka, was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for five

years.
